DISCERNMENT ADVOCATES are:
• Excellent parish pastors
• Trainers, mentors, role models, event leaders and heralds vocational leadership development

Discernment advocates exemplify pastoral excellence and have the endorsement of their synodical bishops and their congregations. (A small stipend will be paid in recognition of this work).

The persons selected will undergo training in vocational discernment, biblical call stories, gifts and theology of vocation, characteristics and culture of young adults, skills in leading small groups and events and understand the church’s process of candidacy for rostered leaders in the ELCA. These advocates will be willing to speak, encourage and nurture the sense of “call” in young adults and advocate for such identification and nurture of young adults in parishes, conferences, synods and regions of our church.
